8th Nation worked with ThoughtWorks NYC to host Filmmaker Oliver Stone and Amy Goodman of Democracy Now for a panel discussion about his film, Snowden. A few weeks later, 8th Nation again worked with ThoughtWorks and Oliver Stone’s team to host an internationally covered press conference where Edward Snowden himself alongside various guests live-streamed the now infamous Snowden Treaty. All parties involved have a deep compassion for social justice and this event was the perfect opportunity for them to collaborate and take action.

The Ask

8th Nation was tasked with hosting and organizing two high profile panel discussion/press conference events featuring Oliver Stone, Edward Snowden and more. Edward Snowden announced the Snowden Treaty live via video feed from Russia with support from Glenn Greenwald via video feed from Brazil and Dalia Hashad of Avaaz.org. In addition to the video feeds by Edward Snowden and Glenn Greenwald, journalist and human rights campaigner, David Miranda, conducted a live panel.

What 8th Nation Did

8th Nation was responsible for organizing Social Media outreach for the events and ensured panelists and VIP guests needs were met by organizing all travel and entertainment accommodations. 8th Nation also coordinated with various IT teams and news outlets for international connections via remote video feed with Russia and Brazil, ensuring everything ran smoothly for a seamless live experience.

  • Develop and execute integrated and multi-channel marketing plans to ensure the event was covered by appropriate media channels
  • Ensuring proper security was arranged for high-profile clients exposing a controversial topic
  • Finessing panel, speakers presentations
  • Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional team members to brainstorm, plan, and develop new ideas and strategies
  • Define comprehensive marketing performance framework, including creative reviews, tracking, and optimization of results
  • Work with commercial, events, and editorial teams on marketing programs and tactics to increase the visibility of the panel and associated opportunities
  • Craft marketing collateral working closely with the art and brand teams on creative vision, strategy, and creation
  • Grow relationships with industry partners to increase audience through co-marketing and cross-promotion opportunities
  • Coordination of volunteer teams for seamless event execution
  • Troubleshooting AV needs before and during the event to ensure technical efficiency
  • Implementation and management of comprehensive social media campaigns to ensure the event is correctly promoted, well attended and captured in the digital world
